i will agree with tangentlin on all points. as the owner of two garmin gps machines, i find them very useful. (i can't let my wife outside the house without one.) but garmin can't do many of the things streets and trips can do, and google, while a great resource, cannot do many of the things that can be done with streets and trips, and those things that google can do is frequently more difficult. you get what you pay for. google is free, so if you don't want to pay for s and t, you still can do some of the things that s and t will do.that said, i was unable to download this trial of s and t, which i wanted to compare to my present 2008 version, to see if the maps in my area had been updated. ms requires "registration" and while i am reqistered with ms, the webpage the download link sent me to told me that either my email address or password was wrong. i know, of course, that the information i provided was correct. however, i notice at the bottom of the "registration" page this "we are unable to complete your request. windows live id is experiencing difficulties. please try again later." i gave this software a 4 because it is excellent (based on the 2008 version). if it were freeware, i would have given it a 5. edited addition 9/3/2009 - the website is now up and i have my copy of the 2010 version. the 2008 version has some minor mapping errors in my area. i checked and they have been fixed in the 2010 version. a missing street in my community is now on the map, as is a recently constructed and opened freeway about 30 miles from my home. my only complaint is the dark toolbar which, i believe, was added for the 2009 version. i haven't checked, but there may be a "skin" to fix that, but it is, after all, only cosmetic, and certainly not a major problem. i do recommend this software. get it at costco and save some money.

i am deployed and my computer crashed in afghanistan. so, i got my mother to send me an hp laptop. she told me that it had windows 8 on it so i was excited to get my computer. little did i know that windows 8 operates like a smart phone and i did not want to buy a smart phone computer, i wanted a regular operating system that is user friendly and doesn't require you to sign into a dang account just to download skype. sine the internet sucks here, i have been on this retarded operating system trying to download skype so i can talk to my family back home. this operating system keeps kicking me out. bottom line is, microsoft messed this one up big time. i completely and utterly hate this operating system. i have to navigate to another window just to try to get to skype that can't even download here. this is the worst experience i have ever had with an operating system and i completely hate it. for people who wanted smart phone features on a laptop, then this is for you. but for people who want a regular computer you should choose something that has windows 7 on it. what was microsoft thinking? i absolutely hate this operating system with a passion. i cannot even download anything without it being a stupid app. uh. all in all this is the worst mistake that i could have possibly made. once before, if i wanted to use a smart phone, i would have bought one instead. i want a regular operating system. oh by the way if you get something with windows 8 on it, you cannot replace it with windows 7 because it will not let you.

agree with dragonfly27 regarding softmakers free office or even the pay for version is also excellent - but libre is still very good (use the linux version daily) & looking at the ridiculous licencing agreement for ms office 2013 the free alternatives are looking better all the time.

i'm going to troll and give it a 4 based on previous versions. - decent lens correction (dxo is better)- limited to nef format for raw input.the nikon press release on their website was rather boring and most of the new features are present in dxo and lightroom. nikon is really just playing catchup - although i am curious to see how the interface has been improved. nx v1.x had a horrible interface that was unintuitive and rather cumbersome.ffective workflow with processing raw images is extremely important to me. lightroom is decent, however, it really pushes organization by metatags too much and it lacks lens correction which completely destryos it for me.i've found that hands down, the best raw image processing software is dxo. for processing wide angle shots and fisheye lens shots, it's correction is phenominal, and it does an amazing job of fixing images based upon the camera body and lenses nx, it cannot input dng files, however, it does export as dng (albeit linear dng files which are huge)!so if you like capture nx, do yourself a favor and try dxo.
